Mrs. Doris Irene Sweeney, 74 of Thurmont died Sunday, February 14 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Kenneth Eugene Sweeney, who died November 7, 2008.
Born July 22, 1935 in Rocky Springs, MD, she was a daughter of the late Bruce Paul and Evelyn M. Stockman Delauter.
Mrs. Sweeney loved watching NASCAR and football. She also enjoyed cooking.
Mrs. Sweeney was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are four children: Diana Tregoning and companion Harold Green of Emmitsburg, Linda McKenzie and companion David Warfield of Asheville NC, Doug Sweeney and wife Melinda of Emmitsburg and Ricky Sweeney and companion Michele Barnhouse of Thurmont; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her special friend: Tom White of Keymar and will be missed by her dogs Russell and Mia.
Mrs. Sweeney is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 615 East Main Street, Thurmont where the family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 17.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 18 at the funeral home with Deacon Debbie Williams Barnes, Thurmont Church of the Brethren, officiating.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. Bearers will be Jason Sweeney, Jamie McKenzie, Glenn Tregoning, Danny Earp, Harold Green and Jason McKenzie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Sweeney's name to the Doris Sweeney burial fund, c/o Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 North Market Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
