Mr. Robert Victor Mercer, 77 of Frederick died Sunday, January 17 at the Glade Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Walkersville. He was the husband of Eileen Remsberg Mercer, whom he married August 10, 1958. Born July 20, 1932 in Frederick, he was a son of the late Victor Grove and Grace Feaga Mercer. In 1946 Bob was confirmed into Christian membership at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, Silver Spring and later became a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop #212 in Silver Spring. Bob started his education at the East Silver Spring Elementary School and continued grade school and junior high school in the Montgomery County system. The family moved back to the Frederick area and Bob completed grades 9-12 at Frederick High School, graduating with the Class of 1951. Bob served as a member of the Class Reunion Committee. In 1950, he attended Boys State at Fort Meade sponsored by the Civitan Club of Frederick. Following graduation, he attended the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy where he received his BS degree in 1957. Then he attended the Frostburg State University where he received his masters degree. He was a member of Phi Delta Chi Fraternity at the University of Maryland. Prior to attending college, Bob was employed at Renn Pontiac in Frederick. After graduation he was employed at Williamson’s Drug Store and then Mercer’s Rexal Drug Store, he then was Director of Pharmacy at the Frederick Memorial Hospital and then was employed at People’s Drug Store later CVS Pharmacy until he retired in 1996. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. He enjoyed camping, swimming, boating and playing cards. He was a member of “Rocky Sams Chapter of the Good Sams of Maryland”. Bob was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and the Maryland Terrapins. Very active in masonry, he was a member of Columbia Lodge #58, A.F. & A. Masons where he served as Master in 1976 and 1978. He was a 14th degree member of the Frederick Lodge of Perfection, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. He was a most excellent Past High Priest of Enoch Royal Arch Chapter #23, member of Enoch Council #10 Royal and Select Masters and Jacques deMolay Commandery #4 Knights Templar, and a life member of the Frederick Elks Lodge #684. He was a member of the Maryland Pharmaceutical Association, the American Diabetes Association, the Monocacy Village Association and Braddock Heights Association. Surviving besides his wife is a brother: Paul F. Mercer and wife Lorraine of Frederick; nieces and nephews: Scott Alan Mercer, Anne R. Bower and Richard P. Mercer; an uncle: A. Owen Mercer of Frederick; and many cousins. Bob will be remembered by his good friends: Patrick Dougherty, Fern Kenney, Glen Ness, Joyce Rowe, Helen Hahn, Bill and Jane Abrecht and by his wife’s extended family. The family would like to extend special thanks to his doctors throughout his illness and the love and care he received at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Heartfields of Frederick Mr. Mercer is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 North Market Street, Frederick where the family will receive friends from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, January 20. Masonic memorial services will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 20 at the funeral home with the Columbia Lodge #58, A.F. & A. Masons. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 21 at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 East Church Street, Frederick, with his pastor the Reverend David J. Albertson officiating. Private Inurnment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick at the convenience of the family.
